Hand and Foot Myofascial Therapy Class

Coming soon!

This class teaches self-treatment techniques to address fascia misalignment, chronic pain, and the negative effects of aging.

This class is based on the Myofascial Energetic Length Technique® (MELT) hand and foot class. The MELT method, developed by manual therapist and exercise physiologist Sue Hitzmann, uses specially-designed treatment balls to rehydrate and rebalance the body’s connective tissue. It aims to restore the supportive qualities of the connective tissue system to bring stability and balance back to the body. “If you compress or pull on connective tissue for short periods of time in very specific ways, you can re-hydrate it,” Hitzmann said. “That is one of the key parts of MELT, how to juice back up the tissue, how to stimulate it and organize it.”

This class targets the body’s connective tissue. By stimulating the connective tissue in the body and manipulating pressure points in the fascia to loosen it up and reduce inflammation, aches, pains and stiffness can be reduced. Fascia forms a continuous network throughout the body, acting as a 3D scaffolding and communication system for all tissues and organs — it is a complex system of connective tissue that connects every part of the body, from the skin surface down to the cell level, and even within the nuclei of cells. This network provides structural support, allows for force transmission, and plays a role in communication between tissues.

The hand and foot treatments focus on the hands and feet as foundational for the body’s overall wellbeing. You will learn simple self-treatment techniques using therapy balls. These techniques involve using pressure and gliding motions to rehydrate and release tension in the hands and feet.

Equipment for Hand and Foot Class

The use of therapy balls is an essential part of this class, and there are many alternatives to purchase in assorted sizes and in different price ranges. Most of the kits I’ve found include yoga balls and/or lacrosse balls, and after looking at several different sets, I’ve found both the yoga and lacrosse balls to be too stiff and overpriced.

The ideal ball is about 2 inches in diameter with a grippy texture and relatively soft.* Amazon has several sets which I’ve found are soft enough and work well.
